For a long time, I thought I needed a better system.
A better planner. A better routine. A more disciplined version of myself.
And for a while, each new system helped. I felt motivated. Organized. Like I finally had it together.
Until eventually, the same feeling returned.
Overwhelmed. Behind. Quietly tired in a way that sleep didn’t fix.
What I slowly realized — and what I don’t think anyone talks about honestly — is this:
Most productivity systems were not built for the lives women are actually living.
They were built for people with one job, one focus, and someone else handling everything else. They were built for output. For optimization. For doing more, faster, with less friction.
They were not built for women who are simultaneously managing careers, households, children, aging parents, relationships, emotional labor, mental load, and the invisible infrastructure that keeps everyone else’s lives running.
They were not built for tired humans.
They were not built for seasons where energy changes, where grief shows up, where the body needs rest that the calendar doesn’t allow for.
So when the system stops working — when the productivity app sits unopened, when the morning routine collapses, when the planner stays blank — the instinct is to blame yourself.
I lack discipline. I’m not trying hard enough. I just need to be better.
But that’s not what’s happening.
What’s happening is that you’re carrying too much for any system to manage. And the answer to too much weight has never been a better way to carry it.
The answer is carrying less.
One clear thing, chosen deliberately. One move that actually matters. A rhythm that fits real life — not the imaginary life where you have four uninterrupted hours and nobody needs anything.
